Text Box: Grand Knights Report
I want to thank the Deputy Grand Knight who effectively ran the Council while I provided support to my daughter in Austin, Texas. She has Lupus and is currently undergoing chemotherapy which is doing a number on her system. I plan to leave for Texas again this week to help her over the rough spots.
At the end of last year and beginning of this year, we were unfortunate to have a number of Brothers pass on. Most of the families requested an honor guard and pall bearers. The Fourth Degree procedures handles these requests easily. However, the Third Degree and below needed something similar. I want to thank those who signed the “Call up” sheet and volunteered to help with this needed function.
Randy Miller is our Fridays After Five coordinator this year. We had a good volunteer turnout to check ID’s on May 2nd. We’ll need more volunteers in August when we man the beer truck. To volunteer, call Randy at 286-3411 or send e-mail to:
Saltx3@embarqmail.com

We have “Knights Of Columbus” license plate holders for sale at $5.00 each. See the Grand Knight for details.

District Deputy’s Report – Bob Maher

The First Degree will be held at St. Peter & Paul on Sunday, April 27th.

A Second Degree will be held in Orange – Council 13860 on May 6th.

St Peter & Paul may hold a First Degree in May, but will definitely hold one in June.

The KOVAR Committee holds its meetings at St. Thomas Aquinas and they are open to the public. I stopped by to see how they operated and found that they are very diligent  when it comes to doling out money. Each request that they get is investigated as to the total amount sought and merit of the request. Some requests are investigated two or three times. The bottom line is that none of the money is wasted. Some of the organizations that receive the money include Special Olympics, Breadworks, and Region 10.

Notes From The Fourth Degree

The Fourth Degree social held on April 6th  in St Michael’s Hall Glenn Allen, VA was enjoyed by all. At the March 25th meeting, 28 of the 139 members being present, the assembly contributed $500 for the construction of the Dome of the Incarnation at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.

Of 401 selectees, the Faithful Navigator chose Bob Maher for the Pope’s Color Corp.

John Kost conducted the recertification of the Color Corp.

Because of a presentation by a veteran’s group involved with TBI, the assembly proposed a gift of $1,500 for their facility.

The next meeting was held on April 22nd .

The next exemplification is May 17th at St. Timothy’s in Chantilly, VA.

Unfinished Business

The Warden asked the Grand Knight about the disposition of a request made last September by The Shepherd of the Hills Parish for help in fixing the floor in their Religious Ed room. ANSWER: When the Priest was replaced, the request was presented to a different council, thus relieving our council of any responsibility.

The following motions were acted upon at the meeting:

1.      At the February 18th meeting, DGK John Chiumento requested  $500 for the youth group to support their trip to Washington D.C. A motion to provide the funding was requested by Trustee Jim Morrisard  and seconded by the Chancellor, but it could not be voted on by the Council because a quorum was not present.

*** This motion was passed unanimously by the council

2.      At the March 17th meeting, Trustee, Jim Morrisard, wanted to amend his motion to change the amount of the    donation to the youth of Incarnation for their trip to Washington from $500.00 to $1200.00. His rationale was that the youth worked for that money by helping the Knights man the Wild Wings concession at JPJ. The Chancellor seconded the motion. During the discussion, the Warden opposed the motion since the Washington trip is only one function at Incarnation. Others include support for the trip to the Catholic Youth Conference, normally $500;  and support for  the First Communion Class with their request. This year they require about $390.00 for memorabilia.

The Warden thinks that $500.00 is the correct donation for the Washington trip.

***  A request to drop this  motion was presented by Jim Morrisard and seconded by the Chancellor.

3.      DGK John Chiumento made a motion to provide the Church of the Incarnation $390.29 for Photo frames to be given as memento to the First Communion class. The motion was seconded by the Warden. The motion will be voted upon at the next valid business meeting.

*** This motion was changed by the DGK to reflect a change in the memorabilia requested by Incarnation. A total of $227.16 was asked and approved unanimously by the council.

All the Proposals in front of the Council were dropped by the Chancellor.
