Installation of Officers – August 18

The Installation of Officers is a solemn occasion, and this year a new procedure was developed to ensure its dignity.  The ceremony was opened with the playing of the National Anthem, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. Retiring Grand Knight, Joe Murray, welcomed the assembly, and Acting Chaplain, Fr. Dennis McAuliffe invoked God’s Blessing on the proceedings.

District Deputy, Bob Maher, conducted the installations by reading the charge of each office to the new officer, who then saluted the District Deputy as an affirmation of acceptance. When all the charges were read, the new officers were presented with their Jewel by their ladies.

State Treasurer, Bill McCarthy addressed the assembly explaining the various state objectives and programs, and asked us to participate in as many as we could.

Grand Knight, Tom O’Rourke, thanked all in attendance for their support and exhorted the membership to look forward to a banner year, or at least, a Star Council year.

Assisting the District Deputy in the Installation process was District Warden, Tim Hipskind (St. Isadore) who aptly named each office holder; Ed Griffen (St. Peter & Paul), who was in charge of the music; and Bob Andrews (Council 3670), who provided the Fourth Degree escort.

A social followed the installation. Over 40 people were in attendance. Seen cruising through the crowd was George Kuhlow (Council 11475), Faithful Navigator of Assembly 2518 and District Membership Chairman, who was seeking to sign-up any non-Knights he could find.

Motions

A motion was presented to the Council by the Grand Knight to provide $100.00 for the entrée at the Installation of Officers on August 18. The motion was seconded by a number of Brothers and passed unanimously by the Council.

General information on dress code and behavior:

1.       Uniforms – this year we are required to wear uniforms. This means you are to wear black or khaki color pants or shorts. Since we are working the Wild Wings stands, shirts will be provided to us, as will hats/visors once you get to the stadium. (If we weren’t working with Wild Wings we would have to provide our own shirts.) NO OPEN-TOED SHOES, FLIP-FLOPS OR JEANS.

2.   Parking is at “The Park” (next to the JAG school) – like last year.

3.       A Bus will take you from The Park to the stadium. Buses start running 5 hours before game time. Please be IN the stand no later than 3 hours before game time, i.e. 12:30 If the game started at 3:30. (If I were you I’d be at The Park NO later than 11:45). Upon arrival at the stadium, proceed to check-in. Your name will be on the K of C list.

4.       We will be working the Wild Wings stands at both the East and West gates. For the time being, let’s have all the            ND volunteers go to the East gate stand, plus Andy (he’s been instructed to keep his eye on them.) Everybody else to the West gate stand. Adjustments may need to be made later. Please be flexible.*( For Aug. 30th  game.)

5.       Duties at the stand – we’ll go over these once you arrive. Please be flexible!

6.       Health Code requirements – we’ll go over these once you arrive. Please follow them – Think The Tavern if you don’t – the Health Dept. will.

7.   Consumption of food – this year, ARAMARK ( the people we/Wild Wings work for) have banned  lunch.          But because we are working for Wild Wings, I have asked twice and been told twice that, we WILL be allowed to eat what we sell. Having said that, let’s be particularly careful about the following: DO NOT eat in the stand; Let’s not be piggish and watch the amount we eat; let’s be circumspect about advertising to other groups/ARAMARK personnel that we are getting free food; and keep personal drinks in a location distinct and apart from where we are selling and cooking.

Volunteers Needed

From time to time, we receive a request  from a Church that we represent for help in painting, minor repairs or general landscaping. If you are interested in helping out in these areas, please let me know. I want to develop a list of people that I can call, rather than have to search through our entire membership roster seeking help. Thank you.
