Text Box: Grand Knight Report
I want to thank those nine stalwarts that attended the last meeting. Although a quorum was not present many things were discussed. With the January meeting, we’ll move the meetings back to the third Monday of each month. Hopefully more Brothers will be able to make the meeting and a little work can get done.
John Chiumento vacated the DGK position because of his extended (5 months) stay in Florida, and Ernie vacated the IG position for medical reasons. These two offices must be filled by vote of the Brothers, hopefully at the next meeting. Please make an extra effort to be there to vote. Currently, Bob Marinchick has expressed an interest in running for the DGK position, and Phil Carr for the IG position. If you wish to run for one of these positions, please call Jim Morrisard expressing your interest.
Again this year, we have an opportunity to work the Wild Wings concession at UVA basketball games. However, only 4 dates are available; Jan 24, Feb 14, Feb 28, and Mar 7. Five guys per game are needed for this gig. Please consider working at least one of the games. Call Bob Marinchick if you’re available.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to all!

Deputy Grand Knight Report – Vacant

Chancellor’s Report – Bob Marinchick (434) 823-4068     r_marincic@comcast.net

As of Dec. 15th, I have resigned my position as Chancellor to run for Deputy Grand Knight.

The Church of the Incarnation has begun the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament every Thursday from 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel.  Every one is welcome.

If you need or would like any Knights of Columbus memorabilia, e.g., Prayer cards, rosaries, medals, K of C  hats, shirts, etc., please see  me.

From time to time, we receive a request  from a Church that we represent for help in painting, minor repairs or general landscaping. If you are interested in helping out in these areas, please let me know. I want to develop a list of people that I can call, rather than have to search through our entire membership roster seeking help. Thank you.

Notes From The Fourth Degree – Courtesy of George Kuhlow - Council 11475

On Sunday, January 11th, at 2:00 there will be a ceremony marking the 232nd anniversary of the drafting of the Virginia Act for Religious Freedom in Fredericksburg. The Rappahannock Assembly will be hosting the event. Every year since 1974 the Knights of Columbus have honored both the Act and President Jefferson, who drafted it, in a ceremony for all faiths at the Monument for Religious Freedom in Fredericksburg. To take part, please contact Bob Jankovits  540-752-1642 or e-mail biankovits@msn.com.

The Fourth Degree is looking for members for the Provincial Color Corps/Flag Team. They will be taking part in ceremonies through four states as well as Washington, D.C. It is a rigorous undertaking with practices throughout the state and they must meet the criteria of the Corps. Of all the names submitted throughout the state as well as the other states in the Province it will come down to six to ten people. It will be a tremendous sacrifice of time and travel for those making the cut, but in terms of personal honor and satisfaction, it’s immeasurable. Anyone interested please contact George Kuhlow 589-6158, who will submit your name.

Election Of Officers

Over the past month, two offices have become vacant and must be filled expeditiously to ensure continuity within the council. The Deputy Grand Knight office became vacant when John Chiumento left for an extended stay (5 months) in Florida. The Inside Guard position became vacant when Ernie Sardi resigned for medical reason.  Phil Carr agreed to run for the Inside Guard position, and Bob Marinchick agreed to run for the Deputy Grand Knight slot. Bob has resigned his  “Chancellor” position which becomes vacant and that must also be filled. We can do the whole thing at the next meeting, provided we have a quorum – 12 Brothers. So, please make a special effort to attend the next meeting. If you are interested in running for one of the vacated slots, please call Jim Morrisard 434-973-6570.

UVA Basketball Concessions

Again this year we have an opportunity to raise money for our favorite charities. Tony DiTolve has ask us if we’d be interested in working the “Wild Wings” concession at some of the JPJ UVA basketball games. There are only four games available, all ACC Conference games. We would need to supply five workers. Game days are: Saturday, January 24th, Saturday, February 14th,  Saturday, February 28th, and Saturday, March 7th. If you are interested, or feel committed to the Council, please call Bob Marinchick, 434-823-4068; E-mail: r_marincic@comcast.net

“Consider Your Call” – A Search For Vocations

Consider Your Call is a set of regional gatherings that will be hosted by the Vocations Offices of the Dioceses of Arlington and Richmond. These  gatherings are for men (ages 16 – 35) who are interested in learning more about how they can discover the Call of God in their lives. These gatherings, which will take place in various geographical regions of both dioceses, will provide an opportunity for young men to reflect, ask questions, and interact with other men who are discerning the Lord’s call in their own lives. The Vocational Director of each diocese will lead each of the regional gatherings that take place in his diocese. This program is designed to show young men the many ways that God speaks to our hearts, and the unique ways that God invites some men to consider a life of ordained ministry.

The Vocation Directors, Fr. Brian Bashista (Arlington) and Fr. Michael Renninger (Richmond), want to ask the Knights of Columbus to help with the process. The Directors are asking each Council for the names of two young men that we think will benefit from this kind of gathering. If you know young men who attend Mass, are prayerful, involved in parish life, such as, church ministries or services, or are trying to live their faith day by day, talk to them about this “Consider Your Call”. If they want to follow up on it, they, or you, can contact Rich Aleksy, VA State Council Vocations Chairman, who will  submit their names to the Diocesian Office to have the Invitations prepared. Richard S. Aleksy, PSD, FM 8203 Claremont St., Manassas, VA 20110; rswa@att.net Phone 703-901-6874

Special Olympics – Alpine Games

On January 26th  and 27th, the Special Olympics Alpine Games will be conducted at Wintergreen Ski Resort. They are looking for volunteers from the Knights of Columbus and their family members to help during the two days of competition. They  are, also,  asking any  Sir Knights if they are available for their Opening Ceremony and award presentation. If you are interested in volunteering for this worthwhile endeavor, please contact Lenny Pulizzi, IPSD, Email: lpulizzi@cox.net, Bob Maher, DD, paws618@embarqmail.com, or Tom O’Rourke, GK, tmorourke@aol.com.

March For Life

The annual “March For Life” will take place on Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Noon on the Mall in Washington, DC. If you are considering attending, please check your church bulletin for any scheduled  bus transportation.

Fraternal Hours Survey

Return of the survey has been very sporadic. We’ve about 70 active  Council members, and I’ve only received 17 surveys. I know many of you are active in parish and civic life. Anything you do in those areas  for which you are not reimbursed can and should be counted toward fraternal hours. The Grand Knight needs this information for his January 11, 2009 meeting. Please fill out the form and return it to me ASAP. Need another blank survey sheet?  Call or email Bob.

Louisa City Christmas Parade

Joe Murray and Phil Carr were two of the participants in this years  Louisa City Christmas Parade. All the participants received these accolades from Jim Marstall, Grand Knight, Sacred Hearts Council # 11262.

Brother Knights,

On behalf of all the members of the Knights of Columbus Sacred Hearts Council #11262 of Louisa County, VA, I want to extend our heartfelt appreciation for the participation of the Father Cunningham Assembly Color Guard and the Honor America Corps (HAC) in the annual Louisa City & County Christmas parade. Not withstanding the positive impact you had on the hundreds of children and families that were awed by the reverent passing of our nation's colors and historic flags, the real beneficiary of your dedication of time and enthusiasm is our local Council.

It is our reputation as an active contributor to the local community that has been truly enhanced. It is a willingness to join in our sponsored events like area blood drives that has been substantially increased. It is an understanding of the giving spirit of the Catholic Community in Louisa that has been accentuated. It is a readiness to stop by our church facilities and join in our fund raising events such as Lenten Friday Fish Fries and SummerFest Arts & Craft shows that has been improved. And, it is the swelling pride that Catholic men of St. Jude and Immaculate Conception churches of Louisa County feel about their faith that will make them wish to join our Order that has been expanded.

We, who are the recipients of your largess, say — Thank you for coming to Louisa. Thank you for putting on long johns and braving the cold wind, blowing flurries of snow, and marching with such goodwill and season's warmth. We will do our best to keep building for the rest of the year, the momentum of goodwill that you started.

God bless you all,

Jim Marstall, Grand Knight

Sacred Hearts Council # 11262
